Tips for a Great Outsourcing
Experience
Some people have never tried outsourcing before because they
think it’s a waste of money while others have had bad experiences and would rather avoid it. However, if you
want to expand your business and actually become a business owner instead of an employee, then there really
is no way around it. You are going to have to outsource. But, there are certain things you can do to improve
the likelihood of you having a great experience.
Set Milestones When
Outsourcing
If you have a large project that needs outsourcing, you
might be tempted to set a deadline on it and that’s it. However, if you really want to avoid problems and
increase the chances of everything going well, then you need to set milestones. This means establishing a
schedule with the freelancer or service provider where they send you what has been completed so
far.
For example, if you’ve outsourced a batch of twenty
articles, you could have the writer send you their completed work every two days if the deadline is one week.
Or, you could ask them to send you the articles in batches of five.
It’s a great way to check that everything is going according
to schedule, but it’s also an excellent way to make sure that the work meets your standards. It’s easier to
fix things when you’re a quarter of the way into the project or less than to have to get the whole project
redone.
Don’t Pay Everything
Upfront
While it’s natural to pay advance when outsourcing a
project, you should never pay everything in full until you are satisfied with the results. This means
actually taking the time and checking the final product to ensure it meets your standards. Of course, you
shouldn’t take forever to check the work because no one will want to work with you again if you take forever
to make payments. But, to make sure you actually get what you want, only make the final payment once you are
satisfied with the results.
Communicating
Clearly
Often, problems with outsourcing arise due to poor
communication. This is why it is essential you communicate clearly and on a regular basis. When it comes to
delegating, more really is better. In other words, the more details you provide, the better the chance of you
getting what you really want.
Even if you’ve had a bad experience with outsourcing before,
that’s no reason not to try again. Remember that most service providers really do want your business and want
to do a good job. So, if you want to grow your business, then you really need to consider going back to
outsourcing because it’s the only way you are going to be able to do it.
